Pavement structures consisting of several hot mix asphalt (HMA) layers require a certain degree of bond at the layer interfaces. Research has proven that the degree of bond between pavement layers can significantly affect the overall performance of the pavement structure or overlay (1).

Poor bond has been known to decrease the structural bearing capacity of a pavement inducing pavementdistresses and failures (2,3).
